Since its foundation 30 years ago, MM21 DHC has grown with the city it serves, fulfilling its mission of providing Yokohama with a stable, high-quality supply of heat. MM21 DHC is determined to continue growing as a Company that contributes to the environment, earning the trust of the regional community. With this objective, the Company has formulated its vision for a better future, the 2030 Vision, under the slogan “Challenge for a Greater Mirai.”
With resolute awareness of the goals of the 2030 Vision, the employees of MM21 DHC are striving as a team to achieve a future rich in value for the Yokohama community.
Today’s world confronts a wide range of issues, including climate change, poverty and gender inequality.
As a mechanism for solving these problems, in September 2015 a United Nations summit adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the aim of achieving a sustainable society. The SDGs consist of 17 targets and 169 subsidiary targets for actions to grapple with these social issues.
At MM21 DHC, we carry out our business activities with the SDGs as our guide, striving to address social issues and achieve a sustainable society.
Marshaling expertise cultivated over 30 years of operations, MM21 DHC will maintain reliable supplies everyday while conducting appropriate preventive maintenance and thoroughly implementing its business continuity plan (BCP). In this way we aim to construct robust heat-supply systems, maintaining operations even in most emergencies and assure rapid recovery when stoppages are unavoidable.
・To ensure continuous heat supply even in times of emergency, MM21 DHC is stepping up its disaster-preparedness measures. These include steps to harden equipment and buildings and measures against flooding.
・We are also building an organization with robust crisis-response capabilities, through measures such as securing of emergency-response personnel.
・Expert operators of heat-source equipment are stationed at two of the Company’s plants at all times—24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Thanks to these uncompromising efforts to ensure stable heat supplies, MM21 DHC customers have not suffered an interruption of heat supply since the Company’s heat-supply operations began. We continuously respond promptly and appropriately to problems, never overlooking even the slightest equipment trouble in day-to-day operations. This practice is supported by a constant search for the most effective maintenance work and equipment inspection methods and a determination to prevent future supply interruptions.
By installing high-efficiency heat sources incorporating state-of-the-art technology, and through diligent pursuit of efficient operation, MM21 DHC will quickly achieve coefficient of performance (COP, a measure of efficiency) of 1.0 while supporting urban development on the environmental front. Through these efforts we aim to be an environmentally contributing company that earns the trust of the region it serves.
MM21 DHC prides itself on implementing state-of-the-art technology. After installing one of the world’s largest high-efficiency inverter turbo chillers, we followed up with freezers using refrigerant with low global-warming potential (low-GWP refrigerant). This advanced technology is part of what makes MM21 DHC the heat-supply company with the largest supply area in Japan. We are continuing to pursue further improvements in energy efficiency and environmental performance for the entire region.
MM21 DHC’s expert operators of large-scale and diverse heat-source equipment leverage a wealth of operating expertise to reduce environmental impact by paring energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
MM21 DHC is installing high-efficiency heat-source equipment and pursuing efficient operation, a lean personnel profile and cost reduction, with a view to ensuring strong earnings. Along with the fruits of these labors, we return value to the city through continuous reductions in fees as the city matures. Our aim is to offer the lowest fee levels in Japan, with a versatile and attractive fee menu.
Since it started operations, MM21 DHC has dropped its rates five times, achieving a 30% reduction in rates since supply operations began. In 2016 we introduced a selective system, with options such as seasonal and time-of-day pricing of cold-water supplies and a fuel-cost adjustment system. To ensure future customer satisfaction, MM21 DHC is working hard to build out an attractive, low-cost fee schedule.
The Company is introducing operation-planning support systems that produce elaborate operational simulations, to ensure stable, efficient operation. MM21 DHC is also considering and implementing optimal operation systems automation and AI.
MM21 DHC is committed to providing stable supplies and improving COP. To these ends we are planning to expand and upgrade our complement of equipment adopting advanced, high-efficiency technology, while overhauling existing equipment for greater efficiency and energy-saving performance.
Supported by 30 years’ experience in the supply business and a solid base of existing infrastructure, MM21 DHC is expanding its roster of auxiliary services for customers’ buildings, such as facility management. Similarly, rather than confine ourselves to our existing supply area, we are expanding into adjacent regions and providing heat to newly redeveloped areas, aiming to participate in new energy-related businesses.
・In March 2019 MM21 DHC concluded an agreement for an educational cooperative program with Minatomiraihoncho Elementary School. We are making every possible effort to achieve a sustainable society, including through contributions to regional education.
・Drawing on its experience in the heat-supply business, MM21 DHC aims to provide equipment-management and other services at customer facilities, further enhancing customer satisfaction. We are also exploring possibilities in a wide range of energy sources other than heat, to become a comprehensive energy enterprise that delivers new value.
Rather than remain restricted to heat supply, the Company is widening its purview to include provision of new energy services. With this goal in mind, we are strengthening partnerships with companies in other industries. In addition, the Company is cooperating closely with the City of Yokohama and related organizations to deploy vigorous new measures that will bolster the value of Minato Mirai 21.
Knowledge is vital to our business. In addition to accumulating operating expertise and applying it effectively, the Company is working hard to boost the capabilities of every employee, aiming for an agile organization that can respond flexibly to changes in the social environment. We’re also dedicated to making every MM21 DHC workplace a rewarding place to work and promoting a healthy work-life balance.
MM21 DHC is establishing frameworks through which employees Company-wide can share knowledge and skills in thermal energy and a wide range of other energy fields. Employees can make use of training programs on equipment management and energy, or take part in-house study groups aimed at training young employees. The objective of these programs is to develop a corps of energy professionals, regardless of each employee’s station or position.
Using a variety of crisis-response manuals, drafted with reference to basic reference works on business continuity plans (BCPs), MM21 DHC carries out regular education and training. We also take steps to maintain a corps of emergency-response professionals. Through these efforts MM21 DHC is improving its ability to respond to disasters and other trouble.
While training all employees for greater operational efficiency, the Company is enabling flexible work styles, by introducing flex time, hour-based leave, and systems for child-care and nursing-care support. By boosting the motivation of each and every employee, MM21 DHC is enhancing its labor productivity.
