District Conduits

The ground underneath Minato Mirai 21 Central district is embedded with utility tunnels, which store infrastructure equipment such as water pipes, gas pipes and electrical cables. Because they are installed underground, the utility tunnels are highly resilient against earthquakes. They also eliminate utility poles above ground, contributing to a beautiful cityscape.
The DHC piping that connects the two plants, Center Plant and No. 2 Plant, to the buildings in the district is embedded in the utility tunnels.
The cold water and steam produced by the plants are delivered to each building by the DHC piping and returned to the plants after use.
Through coordination between the two plants, MM21 DHC secures high-efficiency, power-saving operation and backup functions, while enabling reduction of equipment capacity.
