Installing State-of-the-Art Equipment

As the district’s demand for heating and cooling energy increases, MM21 DHC is adding to and replacing the boilers, chillers, and other heat-source equipment installed at its plant with state-of-the-art equipment.

As demand grows with Minato Mirai 21’s phased development, we carefully assess the amount of heating and cooling capacity required, thereby keeping investment costs low.

The number of inverter centrifugal chillers we operate has expanded from the first one installed in 2016 to four today, thanks to additions made in 2023 and 2024. This has enabled high-efficiency operation in low-load periods, which account for 80% of annual energy consumption in our service area, improving the coefficient of performance (COP).

In 2023, we installed two centrifugal chillers that use eco-friendly coolants with low ozone depletion potential and minimal global warming potential. We plan to install a third unit in 2025 that will also be an environmentally friendly model.

We keep existing equipment at optimal energy-saving performance through regular maintenance.
